Reflections

The strange thing is knowing had he coerced me to take the path he wanted, then done this, I wouldn't have been able to live with myself for allowing him to do it.

Facial Care for Sensitive Skin Types (Dry, Normal, Combination, Oily, Acne Prone)

Sensitive skin can be pretty fussy about what products you use on it, especially when it comes to facial care. This can be made even more difficult if you have sensitive skin that's acne prone, since most products labeled for treating acne can cause even worse irritation than products that aren't labeled for this use.

The purpose of this blog

I know I've taken a rather long hiatus from the Linux portion of this blog. It started out as just simply being bored with writing Linux based articles, but later on became more of an issue with moving around a lot and barely having the time and/or resources to take on as much computing as I normally do. I've had a lot going on in my personal life, and little time to focus on hobbies. I still have a lot going on in my personal life, so there will probably be no roaring comeback for a while, but I do plan to try to continue adding informational articles to this blog as the material for such presents itself in my daily living.

There are a few things I would like to point out about myself and my informational articles on this blog:

Eye of the tiger

You really screwed up this time. You didn't just mess with the woman, you messed with the tigress because you had the carelessness and the audacity to threaten her cub. In all those years of watching documentaries, haven't you ever seen what happens when the papa tiger slaps around one of his cub(s)?

Post thought

It would be nice to find someone that values me as being unique enough to do anything needed to keep us (not just themselves, not just me either) safe and happy... that values me as an indispensable part of their team for life... I don't ask for any more than I give... do I give too much?

My Wish

I just wish people cared. But they don't.

I've lost a lot of love for humanity lately...

How to Tether/How to Root - Guide to Tethering/Guide to Rooting: The LG Optimus Extreme (LGL40G/L40G)

I recently found myself in quite a sticky situation with no internet access (or the ability to set up traditional FIOS/cable access), two weeks to go before I could afford unlimited mobile, and while FoxFi would have proved to be a decent solution in an isolated environment, I couldn't seem to shake off hitchhikers who would make my data usage skyrocket, leaving me worried about losing my cell phone service for over-usage of my mobile data (and FoxFi's WPA2 password function didn't, well, function). Thus the only solution I found left was to root my LG Optimus Extreme (model# LGL40G/L40G) and utilize a wifi hotspot/wifi tethering app that was Android ICS 4.0.3 friendly and designed to take advantage of superuser mode. This actually turned out to be a lot harder than I thought it was going to be, partially due to obscurity, partially due to the information I needed being scattered to the four winds in bits and pieces here and there, and partially due to poorly written guides (sorry folks, thank you for pointing me in the right direction at least, but I did kill several hours on some pretty dumb things like hard resetting just because all the available guides got the process dead wrong).

So here is my complete how to/tutorial on all things wifi hotspotting/wifi tethering with the LG Optimus Extreme (LGL40G/L40G) with Android ICS 4.0.3, right down to rooting this phone if need be and getting wifi hotspotting/wifi tethering going with superuser access. I have taken as much care as possible to make all the steps easy to follow and accurate. Please make a backup of your data before embarking on this journey. Also note there are currently (to my knowledge) no ROMs available for the LG Optimus Extreme (LGL40G/L40G) as of yet, so rooting is purely for the purpose of gaining administrative access for the usage of superuser apps.

Lessons Learned From Life Recently

I have experienced so much in the past few months that many can only imagine experiencing and have learned so much from those experiences that I know others can gain wisdom from that I really feel I should commit some of it to writing in my blog.

When You Sacrifice Karma, It's Only Someone Else's Gain

I am so lucky that I have gotten to learn as much about my dad as I have over my life... that my mom never allowed her disillusionment with their marriage to taint her opinion/perception of him and that she was able to give me a clear picture of who he was... that growing up I heard things like "you remind me of your dad" and "that's just like your father". Through her, and later through my youngest brother, I have been able to construct a pretty accurate view (I hope) of who he was and what he stood for.

How To Get Amazon Prime Instant Video Working in Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail/Mint 15 Olivia Linux on Chrome/Chromium or Firefox

A major issue I have had since returning to the Linux distros such as Ubuntu and Linux Mint has been that my Amazon Prime Instant Video has ceased working by default with the Linux version of Adobe Flash. I was constantly being told that I needed to update my Adobe Flash Player by Amazon Prime Instant every time I tried to play a video.

Through the Eyes of a "Mulatto"

Racism is a funny thing in America.

In the 20th century, there was a law emerging in America known as the one drop law. It stated that if you had even one drop of Negro inherited blood in you, that meant you were ALL Negro. This law continued to be perpetuated until somewhere around 2000, which was when the U.S. Census finally officially recognized mixed race people by allowing them to select more than one race. Despite that change, the Census continues to count any mixed race people as the most major minority in their heritage once the polls are in. They argue this is for the sake of making counting easier... but they have been looking at changing this in recent years since this allowed them to be completely unaware of the explosion of mixed race people in America that has been happening (which are now the fastest growing minority).

The Definitive Guide To Quitting Smoking by Vaping With E-Cigarettes/Advanced Personal Vaporizers - Part 1, Definitions and Choosing a Vaporizing Device

About two years ago I purchased my first e-cigarette: a Totally Wicked Titan Tank. Since then I have totally fallen in love with vaping, so when I found out that I was at high risk of developing COPD, it was no surprise that I brought up the e-cigarette subject to my doctor, especially since I had already tried everything on the market designed to help smokers quit with little to no success and had figured out by that time my biggest issue wasn't so much the physical nicotine dependence as much as it was the psychological dependence on the act of smoking itself. Surprisingly, my doctor was extremely supportive of me switching to e-cigarettes, and agreed with my reasoning that even if I couldn't quit e-cigarettes would still be a much healthier alternative to smoking. I have noticed that there seems to be a serious lack of comprehensive, generic beginner's guides to vaping on the internet... the information is all there, but it's scattered all over e-cigarette forums and there doesn't seem to be any catch-all style guides. So here is a definitive guide on how to get started with quitting smoking cigarettes by vaping with e-cigarettes/advanced personal vaporizers. Good luck - and here's to your good health, too! :)

It Only Gets Better From Here

I kind of feel like ever since my 29th birthday, I've been in this weird accelerated learning process when it comes to life and especially relationships (I don't mean romantic ones but just relationships in general). I've learned more in the past 6 months than I have learned in my entire life... and I finally have a sense of closure, a sense of knowing exactly what it is I want out of my life and exactly what is acceptable/unacceptable when it comes to my relationships with others. I just kind of wish this process had hit me sooner so I would have had a lot more time to spend on going the "right way" instead of spending 10 years of my adult life wasting everything I had to give on people that didn't deserve it and were never going to pay it back or pay it forward.
